I’m ordering a pair of FiveFingers right now. I’ve heard the benefits actually outweigh the looking-ridiculous-ness.

Saw these silly things being demoed when I was in Boston for the marathon. We asked the pitch man how they felt when running long distances. He didn’t know. He was working up to a mile.

There’s no possible way you can tell your feet, which have been cushioned by the soles of shoes your entire life, to suddenly go without any support. Sure it feels more natural, but it’s as if your feet have been floating in space the entire time, and now you’re asking them to stand up and walk.

The website pics give me the impression that the soles offer some arch support, but all in all… I feel better barefooted anyway (then again, I wear 4lbs steel toe / shank boots 6 days a week for 10 hours a day)…. I think a lot of your question would have to do with the subject knwing how to actually run on the balls of his or her feet, and how to minimize dispersing too much energy in the stride. We both know that anyone can run, but not everyone knows how to run for speed and distance.

My thing is that… I’ll still probably stub my toe.
