So, in wirting this book about the debate on video game violence I’ve come across several interviews and article detailing the fact that aside from puzzle games few if any, games contain no violence.
I love violence in my games, but perhaps that’s because I don’t know games without them. I might like a game that is non-violent that is also a non-puzzle game, and so might others.
So what I was thinking - if I could get someone on board to work with, is using proceeds from the book I’m writing when done to a.) go to a child abuse charity (because I think child abuse is something people should be put to death for), and b.) give a developer an opportunity to work on a non-puzzle game that doesn’t have violence simply to show a good game can be made without violence. Then package the book and game together and sell it with the book portion of the sales going to charity and the game portion obviously going to the developer because… I’m not going to tell them they can’t make money from their work.
Again, I’m not saying NO game should have violence, but I think if people can see one done well and that they also enjoy without it, the industry might broaden a little bit. Also, I’m not asking for a Jesus game, the idea is to appeal to a mainstream audience.
lofty? stupid? let me know (also let me know if you’re a developer and would be interested)
